The first modernized Turkish mortar systems were delivered in the last year within the scope of the modernization project.
The mortar modernization project was initiated to increase the hit rates and effectiveness of the mortar shells in the inventory of Turkish Armed Forces (TAF).
Observed in the “Defence Industry 2021 Activities’ video shared by the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) on Twitter, the modernized mortars modified to the 120mm Alkar Automatic Mortar configuration developed by ASELSAN was showcased.
ALKAR 81/120mm Mortar Weapon System
The 120mm variant of the Alkar system, which has versions with 120mm and 81mm, was integrated into various domestic armored platforms, while the 81mm version was observed in various base areas.
ALKAR 81 mm and 120 mm Mortar Weapon System is a modern weapon system integrated on a turret equipped with Automatic Barrel Laying, Automatic Ammunition Loading System (120 mm), Recoil Mechanism and Fire Control Systems.
Thanks to the digital fire control system integrated into mortars with the Alkar Automatic Mortar System, the accuracy and effectiveness of mortars has increased significantly.
The mortars have also been integrated into the ADOP-2000 system. With the integration of the shot control system and ADOP-2000, the response time of the system has been considerably reduced.
Thanks to its modular structure, it can be integrated into many mobile/sedentary military platforms according to the customer’s request.
The effectiveness of the system will increase even further with the integration of inventory-guided munitions into the system, which can use different types of ammunition in the coming years.
The barrel of ALKAR is automatically guided to the target with millimeter precision. By calculating every inch that the mortar will travel through the air, a full hit is achieved on the target. ALKAR is instantly directed to the targets selected by the commander from the map, and the targets are under fire.
The mortar is automatically loaded into the barrel, the barrel can rotate 360 degrees with the advanced fast and sensitive electro-mechanical turret system, and it can shoot at high barrel angles.
The system has a maximum range of 8 kilometres.
