Turkey Works on National Cruise Missile Project With Full Steam

Gürcan Okumus, Director of TUBITAK-SAGE (Defense Industries Research and Development Institute) made important remarks about the Turkey’s national Cruise Missile Project, GEZGIN. The Project will not be affected by the situation in Ukraine.

TUBITAK-SAGE, which continues its studies to develop the GEZGIN Cruise Missile after SOM, has made significant progress in the project. Although there were claims that the GEZGIN Project will be affected due to the Russia-Ukraine War, the statements of SAGE Manager Gürcan Okumus show that these claims are unfounded.

“Our work continues on GEZGIN very successfully, we have passed very important stages in the project. When the GEZGIN project is completed, a unique missile system with groundbreaking technologies like GOKHAN will emerge. We do not know where the Ukraine process will go, but it has no effect on our Project,” Gurcan explained.

It is estimated that the ARAT Turbojet Engine developed by Kale Ar-Ge will be used in the final stage of the GEZGIN Missile.

The ARAT Project was signed between the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and Kale Ar-Ge in November 2021.

With the ARAT project, which means ‘death fish’, it is aimed to meet the engine needs of platforms that need similar thrust levels, especially cruise missiles, with domestic and national resources.

The ARAT engine, which has a design and qualification capable of operating in high altitude and harsh environmental conditions, will also meet an important need of cruise missiles.
