A first in Bayraktar TB3: Landing gear closed

Türkçe

Bayraktar TB3 Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed by BAYKAR successfully performed its first flight with its landing gear closed.

The testing process of the national UAV, Bayraktar TB3, developed by Baykar, continues. The 5th test flight, measuring the mid-altitude system identification and performance of the national UAV, took place at the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ.

LANDING GEAR RETRACTS

During the 5th test flight, the Bayraktar TB3 UAV flew with its landing gear closed for the first time, as part of the mid-altitude system performance tests. Following a successful 6-hour test flight, the national UAV achieved another significant milestone.

FLIGHT UNDER CHALLENGING CONDITIONS

Powered by the domestically developed PD-170 engine by TEI, Bayraktar TB3 UAV conducted a 5-hour flight during the 3rd test flight on November 4, 2023, despite the challenging weather conditions caused by a powerful southwesterly storm reaching a speed of 130 km/h. In the 4th test flight on November 8, the national UAV remained airborne for 6 hours, successfully completing system identification tests at high and low speeds.

FIRST FLIGHT FROM TCG ANADOLU IN 2024

With its foldable wing structure, Bayraktar TB3 UAV will be the world’s first armed UAV capable of taking off and landing from short-runway ships like TCG Anadolu.

Selçuk Bayraktar, Chairman of the Board and Technology Leader of Baykar, announced plans to begin testing Bayraktar TB3 on the TCG Anadolu ship in 2024. The capabilities of Bayraktar TB3 will be a significant innovation in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles of this class.

The national UAV will also have beyond-line-of-sight communication capability, allowing it to be controlled from very long distances. Thus, it will have a multiplier effect on Turkey’s deterrent power by executing reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, and attack missions against overseas targets.

EXPORT TO 33 COUNTRIES

Having managed all its projects from inception with its own resources, Baykar achieved 83% of its income from exports since the beginning of the UAV R&D process in 2003. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) for 2021 and 2022, Baykar became the export leader in the defense and aviation sector. With an export rate of 99.3% in contracts signed in 2022, Baykar achieved $1.2 billion in exports. Export agreements were signed with 32
