Turkey in Final Stages for Offshore Patrol Vessel Export to Philippines

Turkey is in the final stages of exporting Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) to the Philippines. Turkey’s ASFAT is preparing to sign an agreement with the Philippines for the sale of OPV.

According to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com from the Turkish defense sources, Turkey has reached the final stage in the export of Offshore Patrol Ships to the Philippines. The contract for the supply of six Offshore Patrol Ships between Ankara-based ASFAT company and the Philippines Ministry of Defense is expected to be signed in a very short time.

Export of six Offshore Patrol Ships to the Philippines will provide an input of approximately 600 million USD to Turkey’s defense exports.

In addition, according to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com, along with the OPVs, the ULAQ Unmanned Surface Vehicle (AUSV) is also to be exported to the Philippines. Two ULAQs developed by Meteksan Defense and Ares Shipyard will be delivered to the Philippine Navy together with OPVs on AUSVs. ULAQ AUSVs, which can fit inside OPVs, will have 12.7mm anti-aircraft guns.

OPVs to be produced by ASFAT for the Philippine Navy will have a length of 86.2 meters, a width of 14 meters, a speed of 23kts, a range of 6.000 nautical miles and endurance to sail at sea for 21 days. The OPVs to be equipped with 2 diesel engines.

There will be 1x76mm Main Weapon System, 2×12.7mm Machine Guns, 2x30mm Stabilized Gun System and 8 Anti-Ship Missiles (optional).

OPV’s to be supplied with an advanced Combat Management System. They will also have electronic support system (ESM), sonar, 2D air/surface search radar and tactical data-link. OPVs, which will also contain a helipad, will be able to perform many critical tasks.

It is emphasized that offshore patrol ship exports to the Philippines can provide the export of different Turkish defense industry products. Among these products with export potential are: ULAQ AUSV, ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile, ALPER Radar, MUHAFIZ 30mm Stabilized Gun System, ARES Radar ESM System, 76mm Main Weapon System and Sonar.
