The SUNGUR Air Defence Missile developed by Turkey’s defence giant Roketsan will be made available to the Turkish Armed Forces this year.
The SUNGUR Low Altitude Air Defence Missile, developed with national capabilities, has gone into low-rate mass production.
According to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com, the SUNGUR Missile will be made available to the Turkish Armed Forces this year following acceptance test activities.
SUNGUR can be used both by being thrown off the shoulder by Tek-Er (Single Soldier/MANPADS) and mounted on the pedestal.
“At the moment, SUNGUR is a platform ready for mass production. An air defence system that can be used by TEK-ER or through a platform, which can intercept air targets at an altitude of approximately 4 – 4.5 kilometers and a range of 8 kilometers. Mass production activities are currently underway, including the shoulder-to-shoulder version of SUNGUR,” Roketsan General Director Murat Ikinci told to SavunmaSanayiST.com in a relatively recent interview.
AKINCI UAV and SAM Integration
SUNGUR will also be used on AKINCI UAV as an in-sight air missile, in addition to the Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) configuration.
Developed by Roketsan with experience from the HISAR and Stinger projects, SUNGUR has the ability to shoot moving, target detection, diagnosis, identification, tracking and 360 degrees of shooting day and night.
SUNGUR, which has a range of 8 kilometers with the capacity to use a imaging infrared (IIR) Seeker Head, is considered as a fourth generation MANPADS due to its superior features.
